What Is Hip Pain?

If you’re dealing with hip pain, one of the first things we want you to know is that hip pain doesn’t always mean there’s something wrong with the hip joint itself.

Hip pain can come from:

Sometimes you’ll feel it directly in the front of the hip or groin. Other times, it’s on the outside of the hip or in the butt.

What are the symptoms of Hip Pain?

You might notice your hip pain when you’re:

Hip pain can slowly start shrinking your world. Maybe you stop going out for your normal walks. You don’t want to hike anymore. You avoid the stairs. You have trouble getting comfortable in bed, or you’re sitting in a chair too long and start thinking, “Wow, my hip really doesn’t feel like it used to.”

And for active people, one of the most frustrating things is constantly having to modify what you’re doing because you’re worried about making your hip worse.

Most people try to manage the pain themselves at first. They rest, take medication, stretch, maybe start doing some exercises they found online. Sometimes they get better, but sometimes they keep having the same flare-ups over and over again. You might feel better for a few weeks, start doing more, and then the pain comes right back. That’s usually a sign that we need to look a little deeper at what’s contributing to the problem.
